The very first thing you need to do before leaving for studying in China is to get an X Visa (Student Visa).
- Receive soft copy/original copy admission letter and JW202 form from EGT Team.
- Get your physical examination documents signed by a chinese doctor + other required documents asked by your local embassy of China. For example; Proof of financial means, including proof of scholarship, bank statements, employment status and income of guarantor.
- Go to the nearest Chinese embassy or consulate to apply for an X/F/L visa
X visa (student visa) are issued to those coming to China for study or an internship for longer than six months
It is better for you to apply for an X visa for studying in China because only by holding an X visa is a 100% guarantee that you will get a residence permit from the local government which allows you to stay in China legally. If you cannot receive the original Admission Letter and JW202 Form before the starting date of your new semester, EGT will tell you to apply for an L visa instead.
L visa (tourist visa) is issued to those coming to China for sightseeing, visiting family or friends, or for other personal affairs.
Please be sure to contact EGTin advance to make sure there will not be any problem for you to come to China to study with an L visa. According to current regulations and laws in China, the option of using an L visa to study in China is only available for students from North America, South America, Europe, East Asia and SouthEast Asia etc. It will cause you some trouble to use the L visa if you blindly apply for it. Make sure you understand the terms and conditions of using an L visa or you may be expelled because of no Residence Permit. For those who come to study in China with an L visa, EGT or your university staffs may help you do a visa conversion
at the local police station when you arrive at school.
F visa (usually known as a business visa) is issued to those who are invited to China for a visit, an investigation, a lecture, to do business, scientific-technological and culture exchanges, short-term advanced studies or internship for a period of no longer than six months.
Please do not apply for this type of visa for long term education in China. Practically, Chinese Exit-Entry Administration Bureaus usually regard an F visa holder as a business visitor and they don’t offer Residence Permit to foreigners holding an F visa once in china.
